| Purpose/Aims
of Organisation: |
|
To teach and instruct children in the
fundamental truths of Holy Scripture as found in the Holy Bible,
which we believe to be the inspired word of the living and true God.
To show the children how His word is relevant to their lives today
and to encourage then to live out their primary purpose in life
which is to "glorify God and to enjoy Him forever." |
|
|
Sunday School also seeks to teach
children an understanding of 'The Shorter Catechism' which is a
question and answer journey through the 'Westminster Confession of
Faith' which is the subordinate standard of our Church. |
| What
age range/who is the organisation for: |
|
Nursery (approx age 3) to end of school
Year 8. |
| When
does the organisation meet and for how long: |
|
Sunday mornings from 10.15am - 11.00am
in the Church Halls attached to the Church. |
| What
happens during a typical meeting: |
|
Each meeting commences with corporate
praise and prayer after which children are divided up into classes
determined by their age.
Each class has a teacher who seeks,
using a recognised teaching syllabus, to explain scriptural truths
to the children. We use colourful and fun workbooks that
follow the theme for the lesson. These are excellent tools for
reinforcing the key points of each lesson.
We want to inspire our children to
love God's word and to help then see God's plan for their lives and
ultimately our goal is to see them coming to personal faith in Jesus
Christ. |
| Special
events/projects in the past: |
|
Past events have included a summer
excursion to Streamvale Open Farm, a visit to the Pantomime at
Christmas for older children and a Christmas Party for younger
children. The Sunday School has
raised money for Bibles to send to Malawi and have supported various
missionary organisations, as well as providing support for our own
people going into full time missionary/preaching work. |
| Special
events/projects in the future: |
|
At the moment we are working towards
providing Bibles for the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our
summer 2005 outing is currently being arranged. |

| Anything
else you would like to add about the organisation: |
|
Teachers meet together every month to
encourage each other in the work which we believe we are called by
God to do and to pray for the children in our Sunday School.
We also regularly review our teaching
methods and discuss the way ahead.
Teachers have recently undergone
specific training provided by the Presbyterian Church entitled
"Making the Christian Faith Relevant to Children" in order to keep
our teachers aware of issues, teaching methods and resources
relevant to children. Sunday School teachers are aware of, and
are governed by, current Child Protection Legislation. |
