Visitors are always
welcome at Hill Street. Perhaps you're thinking about coming to
church for the first time, looking for a new church or simply passing
through, then this section of the website is for you.
Two services take place
every Sunday. The morning service starts at 11.30am and finishes
around 12.45pm. In the summer months of July and August it starts
at 11.00am. The evening service starts at 7.00pm and finishes
around 8.00pm.
First of all, when you
arrive at church, you will be greeted at the front door by one of our
church leaders. You may then go ahead into the main area of the
church choosing to sit either downstairs or upstairs in the balcony -
feel free to sit wherever you like!
Before and after the
service people like to chat ... we hope you will find us a friendly
bunch. After the evening service coffee, tea and biscuits are
served in the coffee bar attached to the church.
The services in the
morning and evening follow a familiar theme from week to week with
hymns, songs, prayers, bible readings and a sermon. The minister
will preach a sermon, talking to the congregation about some aspect of
the Bible and will apply this message to his listeners in a relevant and
useful way.
Our church aims
to blend the best traditions of the past with more modern and
contemporary methods of worship and praise. The church praise band
often accompanies our times of singing, especially during the evening
services.
During each service
announcements are made to inform the congregation about important
upcoming events. Also, an offering is taken up which is used to
help finance the work of the church. Visitors are definitely not
expected to give anything, unless that is, they feel they would like to.
Common Queries
Most people who visit a
church for the first time are a little apprehensive. With this in
mind, here is some further information to help.
-
You can come along,
take a seat, listen and leave quietly, if you so choose. You
won't be asked to say or do anything.
-
You don't have to be
religious or a Christian to come along. If you have any sort of
interest at all then you are more than welcome to come along and join with
us.
-
There is no dress code. Some people dress casual
in jeans and t-shirts, some dress smart wearing suits or dresses.
