The Missionary Committee was set up during
the ministry of Rev J Girvan in 1983 to initiate missionary interest in
the congregation.
The responsibility of the Church to promote and support Christian
Mission is based on the Great Commission given to the Church by the Lord
Jesus Christ in Matthew 28: 19,20; Mark 16: 15,16: Luke 24: 46-49 and
Acts 1: 7,8.
In the context of these verses every believer is called to share the
gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost. However, this policy is designed
to encourage members of this congregation who have received a call to
full-time service, either overseas or at home, and whose call has been
confirmed and accepted by Kirk Session.
The intention of this policy is to ensure the Great Commission is
carried out by establishing a clear sense of direction and providing a
framework within which the Missionary Committee and subsequent
Committees will operate.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMITTEE WILL BE AS FOLLOWS;
- To provide Missionary Education for
the Congregation by means of videos, books and maps.
- To provide relevant information
including oversight of a group of Missionary correspondents to
communicate with individual missionaries so that we as a Congregation
may be more aware of their tasks, responsibilities and needs and that
they will be assured of our love and concern for them in Christ.
- To encourage Missionary Prayer support
by producing prayer requests on a monthly basis.
- To plan the midweek Missionary Meeting
throughout the year including a Missionary week.
- To motivate youth involvement in
Mission and provide information for job opportunities in short term
Missionary work.
- To persuade our Youth Organisations to
see the need to support our Missionary candidates, Bible College
Students and Students for the Ministry and that they confer with the
Missionary Committee as to whom they should support.
- To encourage the Congregation to pray
constantly to God to raise up and call out members to prepare for
full-time service at home and abroad.
- The Committee should monitor the
support of Missionary Candidates and students from our own
Congregation to keep a parity.
