Pastoral Visitation has played a vital role
historically in Hill Street Congregation and the old dictum is believed
to have a strong element of truth, "a house going minister breeds a
church going people." It has been
the view of successive ministers that it would be difficult to minister
adequately from the pulpit when there is little or no contact with the
people. Visitation is not limited to the minister; there is a team
of women who visit those unable to leave their own homes and as well as
this the Pastoral Assistant and the elders visit their districts.
Visitation to the homes of the
congregation helps to develop a sense of belonging and community spirit
among the church, keeping its members informed of what is happening
throughout the body of the church. |
