Let's meet Rev.
Nigel McCullough and Family ...

Nigel
McCullough grew up in the beautiful countryside outside Kilkeel, not
far from the Silent Valley. He made a commitment to follow Christ when
he was around seven, though he drifted a bit during his early high
school years. Towards the end of his time at school God worked through
a number of factors to lead him to recommit himself to the Lord. It
was not long after that, that he began to feel that God might be
calling him into full time work.
Nigel
went off to University in Aberdeen, initially to do Forestry but as
his sense of call to the ministry strengthened, he changed to
Geography. He stayed on in Aberdeen to do his Theology degree and was
very involved in Christian Union and his local church there.
Katrina was also born in the mountains, in the Andes in Peru, where
her parents were missionaries. Her family returned to Scotland when
she was just two, and, because her Dad went into the ministry of the
Church of Scotland she has lived in several different places
throughout Scotland. She became a Christian when she was very young
and has been aware of God guiding her throughout her school years.
After school she went to Edinburgh University and did a nursing
degree.
Nigel and
Katrina met through her sister who was in Aberdeen. When she came up
to visit, Nigel was captivated (!) and they were eventually married in
1994. They moved to Portadown where Nigel was Assistant for 3˝ years.
Katrina initially worked in Craigavon but then became a midwife and
works in the Royal Maternity.
In 1998
they moved to Ballygrainey, near Bangor and have enjoyed eight happy
years there. Their three children were born in this time – Katie who
is 6, Peter who is 3 and Sam who is 6 months. Nigel says: “We are all
looking forward to coming to Lurgan very much, and we believe that
God’s hand is in it all. I am convinced that when God is at work
through a local church, then not only are the lives of its members
transformed, but the whole community is influenced. We pray that we’ll
experience God powerfully at work in the days to come.”
We asked some of our younger members if there was anything they would
like to ask Nigel, these are their questions and replies from Nigel...
Jessica
(9 years old) and a member of the Girls Brigade asked…
Rev. McCullough...
"I have heard you have a daughter called Katie; What are Katie's
favourite things, and what games does she enjoying playing the most ?"
“Hi Jessica, Katie has been in Girls Brigade here, and loves that very
much. She enjoys skipping, doing crafts and going to the swimming
pool. She loves meeting new friends and going to birthday parties.
She’s really looking forward to meeting new people in Lurgan.”
Joshua ( 9 years old) and a member of our Cub Pack asked….
Rev. Nigel McCullough...
"In Cubs we do lots of interesting activities and Badges. Do you have
any hobbies?"
“Hi Joshua, Katrina says I have far too many hobbies! I occasionally
play golf, I enjoy fiddling with computers, and my Dad used to teach
woodwork, so I enjoy making things in the garage.”
Matthew (11 years old) and a member of our BB asked…
Rev. McCullough...
"When you were a young Boy, what did you enjoy most at school, and
what did you want to do, or be when you grew up ?"
“Hi Matthew, I enjoyed lots of things at school but probably got on
best with Biology and Geography. Best of all, I was in the canoe club,
and we built some canoes and then took them out every week in the sea
or on rivers. That was great fun but very cold as I don’t think wet
suits had been invented back then! I also used to walk a lot in the
Mournes. When I was younger, I thought I was going to work in forestry
when I grew up, but then I began to realise that God wanted me to
spend my life teaching the Bible and telling people about Jesus. I’m
really glad I’m doing that now.” |
